Waiting for News

For someone with a degree in journalism, I’m pretty good at blocking out a lot of what qualifies as news.

But over the last 48 hours, I’ve been seeking out any information about how things are going in northwest Florida. That part of the world is one of my favorite places to visit and work. Unfortunately, a hurricane just blasted through causing some awful damage to life and property.

Sadly, this wasn’t the first time I’ve followed closely and held my breath during hurricane season.

Now that my kids are grown, our yearly pilgrimages to the Emerald Coast have been put on hiatus, but plenty of friends and family still have a regular presence there and will certainly return no matter what happens.

The portrait above was taken a couple of years after a massive storm nearly leveled the neighborhood. Unsurprisingly, everything got rebuilt and everyone came back.
