Vanishing Autumn

In Ernest Hemingway’s novel The Sun Also Rises, a character named Mike is asked how he went bankrupt. “Two ways,” he answers. “Gradually, then suddenly.”

That’s how the seasons around here change.

Just yesterday it was mild and unseasonably warm. Then, in a matter of hours, storms rolled in and removed the remaining leaves from the trees.

Now we’re left with permanent cold until next year.

The memories of a pleasant autumn season remain on my hard drive. This session from a glorious day will have to keep my spirits going until the next drastic change of seasons.
