Regular gallery-goers can probably recite the most common title of any given photograph on display anywhere in the world.
My knowledge of the art scene is equal to what I know about competitive bridge or golfing. Since I’ve never played a single hand or enured even one hole, you probably get my drift.
In fairness to artists who can’t come up with names, I would be hard-pressed to title this picture from downtown Los Angeles.
It can’t be “red door number one” because I’ve photographed a substantial number of red doors. So many that I have lost count.
Mystical titles like “oblivion” or “possibilities” or “up to the underworld” seem a little too cute.
Calling it “this is the reddest thing I’ve ever seen” is accurate but way too long.
For now, it’s just going to be “Temporarily Untitled.”
