Everything in Venice strikes me as so unlikely. Just the mere existence of the place seems quite impossible to me. Yet it has been a thriving city known for commerce and innovation with centuries of success.
I live in one of the oldest cities in North America. When St. Louis was born in the mid-1700s, Venice was already way past middle age.
The unique look and feel of Venice endures while my city has evolved to look like everywhere else.
Places in which time is measured in centuries rather than months can tell us a lot.
That is if we choose to listen.
