Walking from the train station in Monterosso, Italy to the center of town couldn’t be more pleasant.
When I was there I experienced warm temperatures with full sunshine. Sea breezes from the Mediterranean and views of the dramatic intersections of mountains and water were nearly perfect.
There’s no need for a hired car or taxi as the distance is short and the inclines are mild.
I’m sure the experience would have been dramatically different if not for the tunnel that makes the passage from trackside to town so easy.
In a time in which we measure the quality of life by download speeds and express delivery times, it’s easy to forget just how life-changing a tunnel can be.
