Truthful Fiction
Lots of people consider photography to be an objective medium. None of whom are photographers.
The creation of a photograph contains just as much obfuscation as it does revelation.
By my count, there are 14 people visible in this picture. It’s impossible to know how many more are unseen. Sometimes not knowing is better. Not every detail needs to be on display when telling a story.
Here’s what was mostly true at the moment I stopped time with my camera in November of 2018 at the corner of Crosby and Prince Streets in Manhattan.
-It was sunny, except in the shadows.
-The guy on the bike was going too fast and too slow.
-Somebody was overdressed.
-One person was paying attention.
Here’s what is undeniably true, this moment will never happen again.
