Since 1999, I have lived across the street from this tree.
It wasn’t until yesterday that I took any notice.
Why would I? Maybe the better question is, what took so long?
The tidy ring of soil below the branches caught my eye. It was at that point, the totality of the plant revealed itself.
Backlight from the late afternoon sun and some dramatic clouds framed it all up and showed me what I had been missing.
Better late than never, I suppose.
