The Big Reveal

Finding out the secret to a magician’s trick has never made me happy. I prefer to be fooled. There’s no downside in remaining in the dark about the nuts and bolts of any magic.

This portrait from a San Diego session straddles the worlds of the mystical and the real. I can say that with authority because I know the trick.

I’m not going to reveal the intricacies of my photographic sleight of hand that makes the world disappear. The reality that I erased included a view of Trader Joe’s, a Starbucks, a Post Office, and a parking lot.

The only footnote I’ll add is that capturing the essence of a lovely young woman is a lot easier than making a captain of the industry look approachable.

Then again, I charge for one and not for the other. Magic is always free.
