Tasting Menu High/Low

The now-defunct magazine called Metropolitan Home had a monthly feature called High/Low. A decorator would set up a room with expensive furniture and accessories and then do it again with budget items.

The gap between the two treatments was always astonishing.

I was reminded of this while observing some well-heeled diners enjoying a famous tasting menu in one of the wealthiest zip codes in America.

While they were sampling part of their $250 dinner, I was doing the same with my $8 offering. My falafel with biryani rice wasn’t as expansive or expensive, but it tasted pretty good.
