Sustained attention required

I just heard a great interview with Ken Burns and was struck by something he said.

“All real meaning accrues in duration. The things you most care about have benefited from your sustained attention.”

Career artists know that daily practice is not a burden, but an opportunity that is not just anticipated but welcomed.

We know that with practice comes improvement and growth. Creative giants like Ken Burns don’t equate hard repetitive work with drudgery but as just one more step to another creative destination.
