Surf’s Up

Mobile computing is a concept that’s just as subjective as “salt to taste.”

From the earliest days of digital photography, even the chunkiest laptops were an improvement over the film process.

A big turning point was the introduction of a 17 inch Macintosh laptop that was popular with a lot of my peers. To my minimalist eye, that model looked more like a surfboard than a tool of efficiency.

The real breakthrough for me was the Macbook Air. Since then, all of my laptops have been getting smaller.

When I photographed this IT manager back in 2009, he was raving about the capabilities of his “lightweight” laptop. All I could think of was how great it would be to use that giant Toshiba to catch some waves.
