Street Studio: Palm Springs

As I drove 800 miles south from Missouri to Florida a few days ago, I was able to see the progression of the last gasps of winter to the deep breaths of spring.

The trees in my latitude are still bare, but hour by hour as I moved south I could see the new season unfold as the trees went from buds to blooms.

This time-lapse view never gets old.

It’s almost time for a seasonal change in Palm Springs. This change is the opposite of subtle. In just a few weeks, the dry oppressive heat will return with full force.

All of my visits to Palm Springs have coincided with the big photo festival. But as time has passed, the festival keeps getting pushed deeper into the hot zone. Bigger events take precedent there and the artists just take what they can get.

Even in the midst of the full desert heat, there are places in Palm Springs where a quick portrait can happen without anyone melting.
