St. Jimmy’s Day

The best thing about going to Catholic school was the one day every year that we had primacy over public school kids.

That day was November 1st.

To the uninitiated, it’s called All Saints Day. To kids who attend Catholic schools, it’s a day off school immediately after a long cold night of trick or treating on Halloween.

This no-school bacchanal of Halloween candy eating is the greatest religious holiday on the calendar.

With pure sugar as fuel, All Saints Day turned us up to 11.

Nobody enjoyed the day more than my good friend and infamous rascal Jimmy. He was the Huck to my Tom and we had many adventures.

It turned out that his legendary childhood sinning was no match for the redemption of having more kids than The Partridge Family.

According to this license plate, he will be among the saints to be celebrated on that sweet holy day next month.
