Sitting In

There’s a long tradition among jazz and jam-band musicians to “sit in” with other groups and like-minded artists.

The solitary aspect of photography is mostly incompatible with the “sitting in” ethos. This is due to the reality of the craft. There’s just one shutter release and the camera’s viewfinder is made for a single eye only.

It’s kind of big deal when one photographer invites another photographer to join in the fun. I have extended the invitation to a number of my friends who are photographers and each time it’s been a great experience.

A couple of weeks ago on a sunny Saturday, my friend Eric Staudenmaier joined me for a street session in downtown Burbank. It wasn’t the first time and I doubt it will be the last.
