Silent Inspiration

As much as I love the pace of urban life, the noise of the city can really get me down. Try as I might, it’s nearly impossible for me to get used to the din of the streets.

The only time I can block it out is when I’m behind the camera.

When I’m working from home, silence is the soundtrack. Don’t get me wrong, I love music but I don’t mix work and listening. The same goes for my audiobook habit.

Seeking out a little quiet is harder than it sounds. Everywhere one goes today, you’ll be greeted with a blaring television or some kind of background music. The worst is when they’re combined.

Finding a bit of silence out in the world is always a treat. It’s doubly good when it’s combined with a portrait.

This one, from the north side of Chicago, was the perfect blend of that rare urban serenity.
