Shine ’em Up

The conventional wisdom says that the best shoeshine in town is at the airport. Since I can’t remember ever traveling for work or play with shoes that take a polish, it’s impossible for me to weigh in. I do know that that their irresistble shout-out to travelers is always the same. “Shine ’em up!”

It’s hard for me not to hear those words after the basketball courts at my gym get their annual spiff-up.

Like clockwork, the yearly recondition starts at Rosh Hashanah and is finished by Yom Kippur. When it’s done, it has an unmistakable new floor smell.

The shine is what always catches my eye and that of my camera too.
