On September 8th, 2015 my life changed. On that evening I saw Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers performed by the original cast.
The performance was searing in every way. Art and craft for sure, but more than that it completely shook me out of a state of complacency. You see, I foolishly thought that I really couldn’t be surprised by something new. I just never really believed that something new could eclipse my gauzy memories of things that I considered to be unparalleled.
But Hamilton did and did it big. I knew immediately that this was the best thing that I’ve ever seen on a stage in my entire life. I haven’t stopped thinking about it and it was more than two years ago since I was there.
Being there….just writing it gives me a thrill and takes me back.
I still keep the ticket in my wallet as a reminder to be prepared for something extraordinary.
