Security Question

What was the make and model of your first car?

To gain access to my financial data, I sometimes need to answer this question.

Naturally, this is for my protection. Or so says the financial institution which has taken up the task of shielding me from all perils.

I’m admonished to keep the answer to myself, lest it leak to the dark web.

The problem is that I can’t remember the “right” answer. It’s not because I’ve become a dotard. The reason is that when entered the challenge answer, I made a typo of either the make or model.

In their wisdom, the bank refuses to tell me how I bungled the data entry. However, when I call and give a verbal answer, it works just fine.

Surprisingly, I don’t have any photos of my first car. Luckily the last time I was in Santa Barbara, I saw my car’s model year sibling and shot a quick portrait.

I use it as reminder the way some people put their pass phrase on a post-it next to the computer. Please don’t tell anyone, unless it’s me calling for help.
