Pride In

There are two types of artistic pride.

Pride in the making.

And…

Pride in completion.

They are distincly different.

Too often, we artists want to rush to the finish line. This is perfectly natural.

The reality is that the completed works aren’t always our own. By that I mean they can escape our possesion by being sold or lost or even discarded.

However, the creation part belongs exclusively to the artist. The memories and experience of the making is what keeps us going.

My session with the painter Maxine Thirteen reinforced this knowledge. Here finished works were on display and ready for galleries but all her attention was on the work in progress.
