Play Ball

Spontaneous sporting events happen all of the time just as long as the game’s equipment is within reach.

A uniform isn’t necessary for a baseball game but there needs to be a ball, a bat, and a glove for each fielder.

Similar rules apply to the making of photographs.

A photographer may be the greatest in the world, but if there isn’t a camera in hand when a photo opportunity arises it’s a lost opportunity.

This portrait of the baseball player in Odessa, Texas happened thanks to two great strokes of luck. Seeing a young man in a baseball uniform gassing up his truck at the same time that I had my camera on the front seat were the components.

A willing subject and having the right tools at hand resulted in a home run.
