I started hearing the phrase “outsider art” decades ago. It struck me as odd. As if there is another category beyond the regular struggling artist. To me, that’s absurd.
Those of us who reject the establishment framework of employment and compliance are already outsiders. The few “insiders” in the art world are statistical aberrations.
The rest of us just do what we can’t help doing. We make, we create to the exclusion of most everything else.
My session with painter Bini Sebastian had a momentary outsider element. That being a few exterior portraits using the studio wall as a background.
