Out of Warranty

The man in the photograph is named Pete. He has a shop full of things that are eye-catching, interesting and work as intended.

He possesses a level of mechanical aptitude and a tool inventory that frees him from the following:

Manufacturer’s warranties.

Firmware updates.

Upgrade roadmaps.

Product cycle theory.

Service contracts.

Unboxing videos.

Crowdsourced reviews.

In today’s world, he’s the exception not the rule. I can remember a time in which that was reversed.

Most of the time I find the world as it is now to be better.

But I’ve also purchased three front-load washing machines in the last 20 years that have all failed. As if that’s not bad enough, I let my reliable top-load washer get carted away when it still had four or five decades of life left in it.

I’m pretty sure Pete would have had something to say about that.
