Out of Office

“I will be out of the office until….please direct any urgent needs to my admin…”

These “out of the office” or “vacation response” messages are the modern equivalent of the old “gone fishin” signs of long ago. Luckily, it’s not part of my repertoire.

Believe it or not, the topic of corporate communications didn’t come up during the photography session with this San Diego surfer.

We did talk extensively about our respective tools of the trade. He complimented me on my old LL Bean backpack that I use as a camera case. I told him that his 15-year-old Mazda van was a four-wheeled version that carried his boards as well as mine carried my Nikons.

He told me that his rolling “office” had everything he needed for surfing and professional life as an actor. As he opened up the hatch I was impressed with the volume of stuff he had at his disposal.

That’s when I saw the shirt rolled up on the floor. A quick change added that one “office supply” that was missing from the look I had hoped to capture.
