Non Spostare
When you’re a guest in a foreign country, it’s best to assume that you don’t know the rules.
If you behave in a way that blends common sense with the Ten Commandments, you’ll be just fine. Keeping a smile on your face will usually inoculate you against consequences from accidental goofs.
But don’t push your luck. Most locals will lose patience when you contravene a posted sign. Not knowing the local language is no excuse.
When someone writes out an order or a warning by hand, it’s best to take heed.
The modern old saying of “ignorance of the law is no excuse” is even more applicable today now that everyone has a 24/7 translator with them in the form of an app.
I didn’t need a translation of this sign to know that I better not move or touch or sit upon or lean on these Florentine scooters.
It made me wonder who needed this reminder.
