Memphis in the Meantime

If we could just get off-a that beat little girl
Maybe we could find the groove
At least we can get a decent meal
Down at the Rendezvous.

This song pops into my head every time I’m en route to Memphis. John Hiatt’s 1987 lyrics about eating at The Rendezvous are spot-on.

A long-ago photo session with the owners and staff at this downtown institution taught me all I need to know about eating in Memphis.

My upcoming trip to northern Mississippi means that I’ll be passing through again. I may not need a decent meal, but I’ll certainly have that special place on my mind.
