The dominant secular religion in my town is professional baseball.
Our downtown stadium is the central gathering place for worship of the game and a shrine to the sport. At every turn, you’ll find signs to the faithful and relics of the past.
There’s a statue on the west side that depicts one of the greats in his prime. That player was Stan Musial.
As long as I can remember, people meeting up for games would use the statue as a rendezvous point.
At the old stadium, the statue was located on the northeast corner. Today it stands on the west side of the new-ish retro ballpark.
It fits right in and still serves the same purpose.
