Artist to Artist: Mark Nixon in Dublin

A few years ago I was having lunch in Palm Springs with a group of photographers who were in town for the Palm Springs Photography Festival.

We were waiting for one more friend. This friend called and said that he was on his way and was also bringing another photographer along to join us.

Knowing that our little group was pretty tight, he said that this new guy was “our people” which is a quite a ringing endorsement.

The new guy turned out to be Mark Nixon of Dublin who became a fast friend to all of us. Mark is no stranger to the USA, having lived in Los Angeles as a young man. He’s also a frequent attendee of Burning Man.

On a recent visit to Dublin, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Mark at his studio in the city. Just when I thought I really knew him as an artist, I got an even deeper understanding of his skills by seeing his workplace. It’s perfect storm of form and function and really reveals all aspects of his approach to art and commerce.

Dublin is such a great city and having the ability to drop in on an artist that I’m fond of makes the experience that much better.
