Marine Layer Monochrome

In San Diego, the word marine gets used a lot.

For this winter session, there was a pronounced marine cloud layer that influenced the quality of light in a good way.

Having the diffused light of the morning was not unexpected or burdensome but I would have preferred to work in one less layer of fleece.

It hardly mattered by the end of the shoot as the sun quickly warmed up the area around Liberty Station where I was working. What was once a Navy training center is now my favorite outdoor venue for portraits in San Diego.

It’s a short walk to the bay where you can get your fill of marine sights and smells. On the other side of Liberty Station, you’ll find the Marine Corps recruit depot where no shortage of activity takes place.
