Long Haul

Making a living in the arts has never been easy. There’s a lot of hurry up and wait. Endless practice and preparation are always on the agenda.

There’s no shortage of societal pressures that makes art unappealing as a career. I’m sure that the earliest cave painter was encouraged to have a “plan B” that involved hunting and gathering.

Some artistic pursuits are harder than others. Take acting; most people think that it’s just a matter of getting discovered. While it’s true that the barrier to entry is low. The reality is that careers aren’t formed overnight.

Luck and ability both count.

When I happened upon a T-Mobile TV commercial the other day, I immediately recognized one of the actors. She was a stock subject of mine many years ago. During our Los Angeles session, I could tell she was in it for the long haul.

Time proved me right.
