Less is more: London edition

This photograph was taken on a mostly typical winter day in London’s Notting Hill. I say mostly because there was rain plus a bit of bonus snow.

The model Sarah and I were perfect collaborators because we both knew that if we just got out there something great would happen.

Our session was created without a wardrobe stylist, without a mood board, and without a single prop other than the fortuitous appearance of a flower shop magically painted to match Sarah’s sweater.

A thousand meetings and conference calls would have never resulted in anything that comes close to this moment.

One could say that I got lucky, which is very true. But having a framework and creative system that allows these happy accidents to manifest themselves helps good luck find me.

I’m not against sitting in an office and dreaming up ideas, but I’m completely against substituting the manufactured for the magic that artists can bring when the chemistry is right.
