London Lunch Serendipity

When photographers get together for lunch or dinner, it’s best to assume that it’ll go long. Especially if someone at the table has traveled a long distance to be there.

My London trips always include a leisurely get-together with Julian and Julian. Most of the time, a street photo session is then served up instead of dessert.

One particular mid-day meal took place at Jamie Oliver’s Italian cafe in Islington. As is our custom, we lost track of time. Thanks to the professionalism of my subject Melissa, I got a text announcing that she had arrived early. Did I mention that I had the foresight to set the meeting place of the photoshoot exactly in front of Jamie’s Italian?

Since we weren’t quite finished, the only option was to invite Melissa to join us for a few minutes inside at the table. After the introductions, my mates finished their beers while I assembled my gear.

Just as I dialed in the Nikon’s settings, I noticed that Melissa was camera-ready. Those few frames that I captured in the restaurant were the winners of the session.

We were all stuffed from lunch, but thankfully there was still some room left for a little serendipity.
