Legacy Tools

“That’s a legacy tool that we no longer support.”

So says the helpful tech support person talking to me from 16 time zones away.

“Didn’t you get the notification?”

She went on to say, “we placed that tool in “classic” status two versions ago and notified registered users that it would be deprecated in the next build.”

Long story short, it doesn’t work anymore. Luckily, for their balance sheet, I can easily upgrade today.

My answer? I’ll think about it, which is a nice way of saying “forget it.”

I realize that no tool is designed to last forever. Except for the pair of forged lineman’s pliers that I have in my tool kit. They belonged to my grandfather and are built to outlast humanity.

I think the fellow in the photo knows what I’m talking about. His work of art is also a family heirloom.

“This saw belonged to my grand-daddy”
