Judgemental

I expend a lot of effort searching for artists to photograph. If I totaled up the hours inviting myself into studios, it would exceed the time spent behind the camera.

My pitch is simple but since it’s coming in cold, only about half of the artists reply.

Even when the answer is yes, there’s some natural apprehension. But after a phone call and a barrage of emails, the process becomes clear.

Once the session starts, everyone seems to fall into the routine. There are exceptions, and it’s always with the four legged guardians of the studio.

This fellow was most skeptical of all.

I wasn’t surprised when the Florida artist told me her dog’s name is Judge.
