Italian Window Dressing

I was in my old St. Louis neighborhood a few days ago. It’s called The Hill and it’s where the Italian immigrants landed. It’s still Italian to the core.

When I moved into my studio in 1989, I was a distinct outsider. Most people referred to me as the Irish kid. I asked an older neighbor why they called me that, since I was from Illinois.

He just said, “it’s da same ting kid, outsiders is outsiders.”

These classic record sleeves decorate a building just two blocks from my old place. It’s the kind of “Hill thing” that doesn’t change.
