Independence Day

Today is a holiday and it happens to be my favorite.

It means more to me than all of the other major and minor holidays put together.

It’s not about fireworks or food or family time, though those things make the day even better.

Salutes, salutations, and symbols fall into the same category. They matter but they’re not the holiday.

This most special of holidays falls on the 4th of July. Did you know there’s a 4th of July in Canada, Cameroon, and Cambodia? There is, but it’s not Independence Day.

I celebrate Independence Day for the one thing that matters the most.

Independence.

I’m not just free to do what I want and live the way that I want to live, I actually do it.

I’m lucky and I’m grateful. I hope you realize that you are too, no matter where you are.
