Is there a technological miracle greater than the earbud? Not in my book.
I’m never without a pair. They’re either in my ears or in my pocket at the ready.
To be able to have the music of a simulated symphony hall or the sounds of an intimate studio piped into my head is an ongoing joy. My favorite audio media are narrated books. It wasn’t too long ago that only kings and zillionaires had the resources to have someone “perform” the story of a book with voice narration.
Loud hotel rooms, braking trains, and construction noises barely register with me anymore.
Without taking a census I can safely say that I have at least ten earbuds strategically positioned in my cars, desk drawers and camera bags.
As I close this post I’m listening to Robert Glasper’s musical virtuosity through a pair of wireless earbuds that are the latest addition to my arsenal.
