The only thing worse than stopping to refuel a rental car is paying the sucker rate when returning an empty tank.
On this particular day in Odessa, Texas I was running late which put me way outside of my comfort zone. As I was making the mental calculation of paying through the nose for gas or missing my flight, a gas station magically appeared.
As I started fueling I looked over and noticed this young man in his baseball uniform while also seeing a dilapidated trailer across the street that would be an ideal background for a portrait.
I was now faced with the decision of proceeding to the airport to make my flight within my comfort zone or talking a stranger into a photo session that would take place at that very moment.
It’s pretty obvious to see that throwing caution to the wind was the right call. The session was a success and didn’t take long at all but I was still running out of time. Upon entering the terminal, clearly late for the flight, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my flight was delayed.
