Forty Nickel Pickle

If I had to distill my travel experience into one bite-sized piece of advice, it would be to never arrive at the airport hungry.

The food choices are never great. Add in the uncertainty due to wait times and then garnish it with the staggering cost, and you’re left with indigestion.

Don’t look for comfort in the vending machines either. That is if you can find one. There was a time in which the snack robots in every concourse at the Denver airport were closed when the restaurants were open so as to not “compete” with those places. I know this to be true because the security officer guarding those mechanical dispensers told me so.

With some time to kill before my flight in Atlanta yesterday, I was walking around and seeing the sites in the various terminals. That’s when I found this unexpected offering from a vending machine.

A giant pickle that costs 40 nickels. Two dollars worth of desperation.
