Forest Park Friday

Forest Park is the crown jewel of St. Louis. It’s been a gathering place since the 1800s. It has hosted a World’s Fair and Summer Olympics.

I’ve spent plenty of time in the park over my lifetime and I could write an entire book describing all of the fantastic things I’ve seen and done there.

Just when I thought I had seen it all, I had the chance to be astounded by the “pre-show” of the annual balloon race that starts tomorrow. The event was called the Gaslight Glow.

As fascinating as the balloons were, the people watching was even better.

People were free to walk up to the balloons and chat with the pilots and crew. The magic started happening at dusk when more than 50 racing balloons inflated and lit up the sky.

I took quite a few photographs but this one really captured the essence of my personal experience.
