First To Fall

I can hardly believe that summer is soon to be no more. It’s still too hot outside to sleep with the windows open.

The only place where you’ll catch a chill right now is indoors at every restaurant where the HVAC can freeze you in carbonite.

After my coffee this morning I was out for a walk in my standard attire of shorts and a t-shirt, working up a pleasant sweat while listening to a mix of Seth Godin and 80s New Wave.

That’s when I saw it. The first real sign of the next season, a crimson Japanese maple leaf blowing in the wind ahead of me.

Notwithstanding the calendar or the thermometer, autumn is officially here in my corner of the world.
