Dormitory Echoes

Jason Jones paints in a studio that has a non-artistic history.

The building was originally a summer camp dormitory for “young ladies” who traveled to Arkansas for a season of religious study.

Like many similar 19th-century cultural institutions, the world has moved on. However, the buildings remain and are enjoying a second life with a new batch of devotees and seekers of fulfillment.

This time they’re artists of all stripes.

Jason’s work has a foot in both worlds. He takes old paintings and covers them with new brushstrokes that blend vintage with modern.

He’s the perfect resident for this unique space.
