Don’t Back Up

There’s safety in certainty. At least that’s what we tell ourselves.

Staying put carries little chance of loss. Except the world is always moving forward. If you don’t move with it, you’ll get left behind.

The only thing worse is to try to go backward, especially in art.

I was reminded of this yesterday at Avis in Nashville. Someone ignored the warning signs that say “don’t back up” and gets to spend some time going nowhere.
