Confront the Camera

I started my career journey in photography as a photojournalist which launched me into the world to capture what I saw.

From there I transitioned into commercial studio photography which required me to illustrate visual concepts using strobes, props, sets, and backgrounds.

Neither genre was the right fit. I muddled along for a while being a jack of too many trades with my camera. Being torn between capturing and creating left me rudderless.

For some reason, I was either unwilling or unable to commit to what was always my strength of making portraits. It took me until 1994 to commit to building the emotional and artistic skills needed for this specialty.

Now with 25 years of portrait experience under my belt, I’m still looking at the world through beginner’s eyes.
