I have the best of both worlds where I live. Creve Coeur, Missouri is a small-ish town existing within a bigger metropolis. It’s pretty quiet and quaint, with the bustle and action of the big city on the periphery.
Many of my neighbors have been photography subjects. Some of those subjects are also my friends. That means it’s very easy for me to test something or try a new technique.
Aside from my own brood, the Copelands have been the most frequently photographed family in my town. They are a household of five, all of whom are willing subjects.
From an idea to execution, the only barrier is the seven-minute walk from my house to their place. Nobody needs to spiff up or agonize over wardrobe when an impromptu session is at hand.
This portrait of Daniel Copeland can tell you all you need to know about why this is such a valuable resource for instant creative output.
