Cast in Iron

When companies change their name, it’s usually a bonanza for signmakers. New signage and new branding mean a fresh start and a clean slate.

Sometimes it’s so dramatic that you’d think that someone is trying to erase history. But not everything gets changed. Some vestiges of the past remain hidden in plain sight.

When I stepped over this piece of iron a couple of days ago I found a name that hasn’t been used for a very long time. I guess the company name doesn’t matter much since it’s effectively the same phone company.

There’s always going to be a winner in the longevity contest between a company and its own iron manhole covers.
