Cartographic Catnip

Anyone who knows me is aware that I can’t walk past a globe without spinning it. When I see a pinned map or globe, the natural questions of “have I been there?” and “when can I go there?” vie for my attention.

The only thing better than a map is a map room.

My fondest memory of a 1998 gig in London had nothing to do with the photoshoot in Hyde Park and everything to do with a “drop-in” at the Royal Geographic Society to inquire about some props.

It was like the Vatican of cartography.

I try not to play favorites and just enjoy what comes my way. An old road map or even a GPS app on my phone can rev up my imagination.

This small globe was in an Airbnb in Cody, Wyoming. I can’t think of a better home decor element for a traveler than seeing where I might want to start my next adventure.
