Botanical Inspiration

The unpredictability of the natural world is the source of Celeste Amparo Pfau’s raw materials and inspiration. Her organized and disciplined Alabama studio is where those objects are converted into artistic works.

What appears to be just a pile of leaves to the uninitiated, is actually the precursors for astonishing prints.

All it required was the skill of a gifted artist and her machinery. That of course is not a trivial detail.

My eye was drawn to her botanical silkscreens on translucent fabric. The nature of my documentary project is to use dozens of photographs to tell the artist’s story.

In this case, the portrait of Celeste sums up her practice in a single picture.
