Baby on Board

The tiny spec at the top of the picture is Southwest flight 1010 captured less than a minute after take-off from Burbank. The Boeing 737 is carrying 150 souls to Dallas and points onward.

Below the plane are hundreds of thousands of San Fernando Valley residents waking up to a clear Sunday in October.

I know a few of the Valley residents. I also know one of the passengers on the plane. To say this person is a precious cargo is an understatement.

It’s my daughter Julia.

Just last night the whole family was gathered on the patio of our Hollywood Hills rental. It’s the same spot where I snapped this photo as I watched the plane fade into the distance.

Julia’s mother and I have seen her off on a lot of journeys including Italy, Korea and too many US destinations to count. This was the first time that I had a chance to observe her climb-out in real-time.

I don’t think there will ever be a time when I’m without concerns or worries about Julia. Luckily my pride in her accomplishments leaves little room for those thoughts.
