A Florida Man

Those three words are a pre-roll for a news story about someone doing something of note. Not noteworthy like discovering a cure for cancer or acting heroically. Positive stories don’t sell ads or entice people to click their screen.

I’m talking about reports that are salacious in the extreme.

Of course, there are plenty of people in Florida doing stupid things. But that’s because there are plenty of people in Florida.

It’s a numbers game.

There’s no “Wyoming Man” category of media mocking because there are so few folks in Wyoming.

I’ve had scores of Florida men as subjects. None of them have thrown a gator at me or tried to give me a haircut with a samurai sword. In fact, I can’t think of one sunshine state subject that has close to the infamy of the media’s caricature.

As the season begins to grow ever-colder, I’ll be looking for any excuse to have new photo opportunities in Florida.
