52nd Street Studio

I don’t play favorites but if I did, 52nd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues would be my favorite block.

I really love the directional light that happens twice a day.  The morning light in this portrait is exactly what I’m talking about. It’s a perfect street studio.

There are a lot of other things that have captured my fascination.

No matter the time of day, I love to peek into the veterinarian’s window. At night there are always cats doing their thing.

The barbershop is also a frequent destination for me. I love nothing more than getting a haircut there on a Sunday knowing that it’s something that I can’t get back home.

The Vietnamese restaurant gives the block a fragrance that is unmistakable as does the burger place near 9th Avenue.

The combination of familiarity and mystery changes by the day but that’s what makes it so compelling.
